Carey J. Flaherty
Principal

Mr. Flaherty serves as a Principal with primary responsibility for the oversight of Madison’s U.S. investment activities including the origination, underwriting and execution of transactions for Madison’s managed investment funds.  Mr. Flaherty is involved in all aspects of the investment process including financial analysis, property due diligence, transaction structuring and execution.  Prior to joining Madison International Realty in 2003, Mr. Flaherty worked in the Real Estate Investment Banking group at Deutsche Bank.  While there, Mr. Flaherty analyzed real estate private equity investments and structured debt products for the firm’s balance sheet, managed investment funds, and third party clients. Mr. Flaherty received a BA degree from Columbia University.

 
Derek O. Jacobson
Principal

Mr. Jacobson serves as a Principal with primary responsibility for the oversight of Madison’s European investment activities including origination, underwriting and execution of transactions for Madison’s managed funds. Mr. Jacobson works on all aspects of financial analysis, property due diligence and transaction structuring with specific focus on closed-end funds and equity recapitalizations in Germany, the U.K. and Madison’s other non-US markets. Prior to joining Madison International Realty, Mr. Jacobson was a financial analyst for Taurus Investment Holdings, an international real estate private equity firm, where he served in the acquisitions and underwriting group. Mr. Jacobson is a fluent German speaker and received a BA degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

 
Gabriel A. Pozo
Senior Associate

Mr. Pozo serves as a Senior Investment Associate with responsibility for the underwriting and execution of equity investments on behalf of Madison’s managed funds. Prior to joining Madison in 2008, Mr. Pozo worked in the real estate finance group at Credit Suisse where he originated, underwrote and managed structured real estate debt and equity financing transactions, including senior loans, junior b-notes, mezzanine debt, preferred equity, and loan syndications & securitizations. Mr. Pozo also worked at NewStar Financial analyzing and structuring high yield debt investments. Mr. Pozo began his career in the real estate advisory practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Mr. Pozo received a Master's degree in Real Estate Investment & Finance from New York University and a BBA degree in Real Estate from the University of Wisconsin School of Business.

 
Darryl J. Kasper
Associate

Mr. Kasper serves as an Investment Associate with primary responsibility for managing Madison's market research platform.  Mr. Kasper compiles data from local market participants, research reports, and subscription-data services to provide the investment team with synthesized analysis of market activity as well as valuation and cash flow variable assumptions for target fund investments.  Mr. Kasper monitors trends in underlying market fundamentals for Madison's existing portfolio, and is generally responsible for tracking real estate industry activity internationally.  Mr. Kasper has real estate experience in development, investment banking, and consulting: at Blumenfeld Development Group he served as an acquisition, leasing, and financing analyst for a five-million square-foot commercial real estate portfolio; at Cohen & Steers Capital Advisors he provided a range of capital market, restructuring, recapitalization, and M&A transaction services to senior and assisted living REITs; and, at Cotter & Kavanaugh he served as a consultant to domestic affordable housing developers on deal structuring matters, including sizing and securing tax-exempt bonds, low-income housing tax credits, and other capital stack components.  Mr. Kasper received an MPA in Public Finance from the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs and a BA in Economics from Cornell University's College of Arts and Sciences.

 
Alex J. Lukesch
Associate

Mr. Lukesch serves as an Investment Associate with responsibility for the underwriting and execution of Madison’s equity transactions including all aspects of financial analysis, property due diligence and transaction structuring. Mr. Lukesch works closely with both the Frankfurt and New York office on equity transactions in Europe and in the US. Prior to joining Madison, Mr. Lukesch was at Lincoln Property Company, a real estate investment and management company, where he was a key member of a value added fund. Before his time at Lincoln, Mr. Lukesch was with Corus Bank, where he worked on the underwriting, structuring and closing of real estate construction loans. Mr. Lukesch is a fluent German speaker and received a BS in Economics from the Wharton School with concentrations in finance and real estate and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania with a major in international studies.

 
Christopher S. Mendez
Associate

Mr. Mendez serves as an Investment Associate with responsibility for the underwriting and execution of equity investments on behalf of Madison’s managed funds. Prior to joining Madison in 2009, Mr. Mendez worked for Morgan Stanley Real Estate, where he was engaged on both investment banking and investing transactions. Prior to business school, Mr. Mendez worked for IBM Business Consulting Services (formerly PricewaterhouseCoopers), where he specialized in financial and risk modeling for Federal government agencies, including the Federal Housing Administration. Mr. Mendez received his BS from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University, with a concentration in financial management, and his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, with a double major in finance and real estate. In addition, Mr. Mendez is a CFA charterholder and a member of the New York Society of Securities Analysts.

 
Ryan A. Colbert
Associate

Mr. Colbert serves as an Investment Associate with responsibility for the underwriting and execution of Madison's equity transactions including all aspects of financial analysis, transaction due diligence, and structuring of Madison's US and European equity transactions.  Mr. Colbert’s target investments include existing limited partnership interests, structured equity investments, equity recapitalizations, and secondary interests in German closed-end funds.  Prior to joining Madison, Mr. Colbert worked as an analyst in Debt Capital Markets at Barclays Capital where he was involved in underwriting investment-grade bonds for Real Estate, Healthcare and Media companies. Prior to joining Barclays Capital, Mr. Colbert was an analyst at W. P. Carey & Co. LLC, a global real estate investment firm where he specialized in financial analysis, modeling and property due diligence. Mr. Colbert is fluent in German and received his BA from Cornell University in Political Science & German Area Studies with a minor in Law and Society and Finance. He holds both Series 7 and 63 NASD qualifications.

 
Evan Cohen
Associate

Mr. Cohen serves as an Investment Associate with responsibility for all aspects of transaction underwriting, financial diligence, and structuring of Madison’s U.S. and U.K. equity transactions. Mr. Cohen’s target investments include existing limited partnership interests, structured equity investments, equity recapitalizations, and secondary interests in U.K. property unit trusts. Prior to joining Madison International Realty, Mr. Cohen was an analyst for Metropolitan Real Estate Investors, LLC, a real estate investment and management company where he focused on the acquisition of office properties in major cities throughout the United States. Prior to joining Metropolitan Real Estate Investors, LLC, Mr. Cohen was a key member of the acquisitions and dispositions team at Rockrose Development Corp., a real estate development company located in New York where he focused on the acquisition and disposition of office and residential properties in New York and Washington D.C. Mr. Cohen received his BA from Muhlenberg College in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance.

 
Edward S. Chen
Investment Assistant

Mr. Chen serves as Investment Assistant, providing support in the underwriting of transactions, execution of market-level and asset-level due diligence, and tracking of Madison’s transaction pipeline through all stages, from initial underwriting to close. Mr. Chen is also active in coordinating strategic initiatives for the growth and development of Madison’s internal operations.  He also oversees Madison's IT network and infrastructure. Mr. Chen earned a BA degree from Wesleyan University.
